For the first time in months, Mykhailo Mudryk has reappeared publicly. The banned Chelsea player is currently involved in a project outside of football and has debuted a new appearance. The 24-year-old winger, who joined Chelsea for £88 million in January 2023, has not played since the Europa Conference League game on November 28 last year.
Reports indicate that a presumed negative analytical result prevented Mudryk from being selected. According to Daily Mail Sport, Ukrainian reports claiming the substance involved was meldonium are believed to be accurate. Mudryk has consistently denied any wrongdoing in official statements and has maintained a low profile, occasionally posting cryptic messages on social media.
The Blues winger resurfaced on social media Tuesday wearing his Chelsea tracksuit bottoms, revealing that he is now focused on a film project in Ukraine. Serhiy Palkin shared a photo of Mudryk alongside other filmmakers and Croatian football manager Igor Jovicevic. The project reportedly revolves around the conflict in Ukraine and Shakhtar Donetsk.
WADA Updates on Mudryk’s Case
Mudryk previously sported a buzz cut when last playing for Chelsea but now has a classic short back and sides hairstyle. He awaits the results of a “B” sample, which will verify his initial test.
If a positive drug test is confirmed, Mudryk could face a long-term ban similar to Paul Pogba, who was initially suspended for four years before an appeal reduced it to eighteen months. Witold Banka, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), provided an update on Mudryk’s case:
“We are awaiting a disciplinary ruling from the Football Association of England. We don’t know when it will arrive yet. After reviewing the player’s documents according to anti-doping policies, we will determine whether to accept this decision. We can appeal if we find the ruling too harsh or too lenient.”
Currently, the resolution of Mudryk’s case remains uncertain, leaving fans and the football world awaiting clarity.
